One of my favorite things to do is take regular, simple recipes and jazz them up. So then I thought, what's better than brownies? Brownies with a rich chocolate frosting that literally melts in your mouth. So good, and yet so simple!
Chocolate Frosted Brownies
Brownies:
- 1 cup butter, melted
- ½ cup cocoa powder
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 1 tsp. vanilla extract
- 4 eggs
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
Frosting:
- ¼ cup butter, softened
- ¼ cup whole milk
- ¼ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 3 cups powdered sugar
Make the brownies: Preheat the oven to 350F and line a 9x13 inch pan with aluminum foil, then spray the foil with nonstick cooking spray. Whisk together the melted butter and cocoa powder in a large bowl. Add the sugar and whisk until mixed well. Add the vanilla extract and eggs and whisk well. Switch to a rubber spatula and mix in the flour (it will be too thick for a whisk, take my word for it). Mix until no streaks remain, then pour the batter into the prepared pan.
Bake for 23 – 25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Allow to cool for 15 minutes while you make the frosting.
Make the frosting: Combine all the ingredients in the bowl of a stand mixer and beat until well combined. Pour over the brownies and spread evenly. It will settle and set, so your streak marks won’t matter. Allow to cool completely before slicing (I even let it cool overnight).
